Bespoke editions by The Heritage Guild

Commissions

21R6 Editions also makes books for others. If you have a story, a collection, an archive or a body of knowledge that deserves to become a real book, The Heritage Guild can research, edit, design and publish it with you, to the same standard as our own titles.

We take on a small number of projects at a time, so each one has our full attention.

What we make

Books to keep and pass on, for a family, an institution or a wider readership.

  • Memoirs and family histories

A life story, a family’s letters or a grandparent’s notebooks, turned into a finished book for the family and beyond.

  • Institutional and anniversary books

Histories of clubs, societies, schools, companies and museums, often for an anniversary or an exhibition.

  • Restored editions

Out-of-print texts from a family archive or an estate, re-edited, newly designed and brought back into print.

  • Illustrated guides

Practical or specialist knowledge made clear and handsome, in the manner of our Ready When It Matters series.

What we do

Everything between your material and a finished book on sale.

Research

Archive and library work, interviews, picture research and permissions.

Editing

Structural editing, copy-editing and proofreading. Translation can be arranged.

Design and illustration

Typography, page layout, covers, illustration, maps and the restoration of old photographs.

Publishing

An ISBN under 21R6 Editions, paperback or hardback printed on demand, listing on Amazon, and the legal deposit copy for the British Library.

How it works

Five stages, and you approve each one before the next begins.

  1. A first conversation

You tell us about the project. We read every enquiry and reply personally, and if it suits us both we arrange a call.

  2. A proposal

A written proposal with the scope, the schedule and a fixed price, so there are no surprises.

  3. The work

Research, writing or editing, then design. You see the book take shape and approve each stage.

  4. Proofs

You approve the final files and a printed proof copy before anything is published.

  5. Publication

The book goes on sale and you receive your copies. It also joins our list on this website.

In plain words

What you can expect from us, before you write.

  • The fee

This is a paid service, at a fixed price agreed in advance.

  • Your rights

Your text and your material stay yours.

  • The agreement

A short written agreement covers the price, rights, files and any royalties before work begins.

  • Our choice

We take on the books we believe in and can do justice to.

An example of the work

Les Pommés de l’Orange

A 1964 text by Gil Dugué, first published in Tangier, re-edited, newly illustrated by Robbie Conceptuel and brought back into print in 2026, with an ISBN, a paperback edition and worldwide listing.

Start a conversation

Write to [email protected] with a few lines about your project:

  • what the book is about, and who it is for
  • what material exists already: text, photographs, archives
  • its rough length, if you know it
  • any date you have in mind

There is no form to fill in and no obligation. We reply to every enquiry.
